March marks the celebration of Women’s History Month, a time to reflect on the incredible achievements and lasting impact of women through history. Canton is home to a rich history of women who have broken barriers and created change, contributing significantly to the social, economic, and cultural fabric of the city. This history is reflected in places like The Canton Women’s Club, which was founded in 1902 to give women a platform to collaborate on social issues, promote civic engagement, and participate in charity work, as well as the National First Ladies Library, which recognizes the enduring impacts of First Ladies throughout history.
Within the history of Stark Library itself are many inspiring and honorable women whose efforts we continue to build on today. Whether through local authors, leaders, or activists, the library serves as a space for learning, empowerment, and growth for all women, young and old. However, Women’s History Month is not only about celebrating the past but also motivating the next generation of trailblazers. The 2025 theme for Women’s History Month is Moving Forward Together: Women Educating and Inspiring Generations. At Stark Library, we aim to create an environment where young girls and women can see all the possibilities that lie before them. Through our STEM programs, literacy initiatives, and community enrichment, we strive to foster confidence, leadership, and success in the women and girls of today. Be sure to check out our Women’s History Month programs offerings to see the full line up of educational experiences and adventures that await!
