Winter—the season for cozy vibes, snowy days, and winter adventures!
When the weather outside is frightful, come find warmth and excitement inside at Stark Library! From December through February, we’ve got a lineup of fun events and activities perfect for the season.
Visual and Interactive Art Activities
Art is everywhere. It’s in the music that we listen to, the movies that we watch, and in the creative activities where we make something truly one-of-a-kind (we’re looking at you, macaroni art). We have a love song rock band coming up for the Valentine’s season. For the kids, we’re showing the movie Polar Express alongside hot cocoa and a holiday craft. Other art activities include a 90’s night filled with friendship bracelets and bead jewelry, learning how to tie different knots with pirates, and creating relaxing candles to really kick off your holiday chill.
Did we mention that six branch locations have put together Life-Sized Candyland, a giant take on the classic game? And a fairy-tale-themed Valentine Dance Party? Have the kids been huddled up inside too long? Bring them to an art night to decorate marshmallow treats and create suncatchers.
Health and Wellness
Maybe you’re pre-emptively fighting with what your New Years resolution should be. Self-care should be near the top of the list. Get fit with the family or see if tai chi for arthritis brings pain relief and relaxation. What about stepping up your cooking skills by taste-testing herbs and spices? No more sprinkling “a little bit of this” and “a little bit of that” without knowing what flavors you’ll end up with!
Don’t worry, teens and tweens, we haven’t forgotten about you! Learn about healthy eating with a vegetarian or vegan diet, then come hang out with the best bunny buddies from a rabbit rescue to help ease stress and anxiety.
Culture and History
Broaden your knowledge with our educational programs! Get to know about winter religious holidays and their unique customs. From the McKinley Museum, learn about the women who ran illegal side hustles during the prohibition era to keep their families fed, or about Eisenhower’s Operation: OVERLORD presented by MAPS Air Museum.
All throughout the month of February, we have multiple events educating about and honoring Black History Month. Celebrate Stark County’s African American trailblazers, learn about the secrets of the Underground Railroad, how the statistics of the Negro Baseball League impacted the Major League, and the strong women behind history’s FLOTUSes. Kids, find out how crucial and influential Black inventors were to society, or watch a live performance presented by the Kulture Kids.
For the winter season, Stark Library’s locations are your one-stop for activities, continuing education, and one-of-a-kind experiences for people of all ages, interests, and abilities. Check out all our Winter events here!
