“We are grateful to be a part of such a wonderful and supportive community. There are only 31 star rated libraries in Ohio, and we are honored to be among them,” said Mary Ellen Icaza, CEO and Executive Director of Stark Library. “I am proud of our staff and the good work we do to serve the community every day.”
Library Journal’s Star Library Ratings and the Library Journal Index of Public Library Service spotlight the best libraries across America. The prestigious national rating system recognizes and promotes America’s top public libraries and gives an overall indication of how libraries stack up to their peers nationally. The Library Journal’s star rating is similar to that used by Michelin and is indicative of the elite service that Stark Library provides to the community.
Out of the 16,766 public libraries in the United States, there are only 262 libraries ranked Star Libraries this year, and only 31 are in Ohio. Ohio is ranked as the second-highest state in the country for the number of Star Libraries, and Stark Library is honored to be the only library in Stark County on the list – for six years in a row!
The industry-leading magazine analyzes public libraries to determine Star status based on six different measures: overall circulation, circulation of electronic materials, library visits, program attendance, WiFi, and public Internet computer use. The ratings were based on data from 2018 reported to state library agencies and compiled nationally by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
