Early Literacy at Stark County District Library
Our Start Smart initiative focuses on providing the information and tools that parents, caregivers, and educators need to facilitate early literacy development. And, of
course, like everything at the Library, all of these resources are available for free.
Early literacy is the knowledge a child develops about reading and writing before actually learning to read or write. With an early introduction to skills such as holding a book or listening to stories, children have a better chance at succeeding in school, which translates into positive outcomes later in life.
Winner of numerous awards from national education, parent, and media organizations, ABCmouse.com offers a highly engaging, expert designed curriculum for preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten. The interactive activities explore reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, art, and music to help children build a strong foundation for academic success. Available only in the library, including the Library's wireless service.
