One Book One Community Stark County - Fall 2017

Each year Stark County residents of all ages join together in reading a common book and sharing ideas through community conversation.

This year’s book selection, Rudy: My Story, shares former Notre Dame football player Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger’s story of fierce determination and the twenty-seven seconds that changed his life. In 1993, his underdog story was immortalized in the blockbuster film, RUDY. Younger readers will read The Little Linebacker by Stephen Tulloch and Maria Dismondy.

This fall, Stark Library joins five area libraries—North Canton Public Library, Massillon Public Library, Louisville Public Library, Minerva Public Library and Canal Fulton Public Library—to host a series of events encouraging Stark County to bring the story to life.

About the Books

Rudy: My Story by Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger

Gaining Ground Book CoverAgainst all odds on a gridiron in South Bend, Indiana, Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger, in twenty-seven seconds, carved his name into history books as perhaps the most famous graduate of the University of Notre Dame.

It took years of fierce determination to overcome obstacles and criticisms, yet Rudy achieved his dream—to attend Notre Dame and play football for the Fighting Irish. As fans cheered, he sacked the quarterback in the last twenty-seven seconds of the only play in the only game of his college football career.

In 1993, his life story was immortalized with the blockbuster film, RUDY. Today, Rudy is a highly sought-after motivational speaker. He reaches school children, university students and professional athletes with the same enthusiasm, portraying the human spirit that comes from his personal experiences of adversity and triumph.

Rudy: My Story is available for purchase at the Stark Library FOL Gift Shop (Main Library, 715 Market Ave N, Canton) and may be reserved for checkout through the library.
