Uncover Your Story at the 7th Annual Diggin’ in the Dark: Genealogy After Hours

October 4, 2016 (Canton, Ohio) – Stark County District Library invites genealogy buffs to an exciting evening of family history research on October 29 from 6 p.m. to midnight at the 7th annual Diggin’ in the Dark. This free marathon genealogy event is open to all skill levels and will be held at the Main Library in downtown Canton.

The evening includes access to databases, information from organizations such as the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and McKinley Museum, refreshments and door prizes! A special Cloud Genealogy class will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. to teach users how to store and organize their archives online.

Trained genealogy staff will be on hand throughout the evening to help both new and experienced researchers dig into their family history using databases like Ancestry.com, various Stark County Courthouse records, local histories, newspapers, the Federal census, and much more. Stark County District Library collects records on the entire state of Ohio, as well as selected records for the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia and is now a lending library for the genealogical records from the Mormon Church (LDS).

“The history of our community and its people is important, which is why we host this annually. This is the largest event of its kind in the county and we welcome all skill levels. It’s quite popular, so we recommend registering early,” said Lauren Landis, Manager of the Genealogy Division. “We’re always happy to help anyone with an interest in their lineage and we do it all free; it’s just another way we try to be Stark County’s Smart Store.”

This event is for individuals and groups of all skill levels. Registration is requested for this free event. Those who have questions about the event can contact the Main Library at 330-452-0665 or visit StarkLibrary.org/Genealogy. The Main Library is located at 715 Market Avenue North, Canton, Ohio 44702.
