Stark Library Welcomes Back In-Person Events with Authors Baruti Kafele and Mark Bittman

August 23, 2020 (Canton, Ohio) Stark Library is excited to announce two upcoming author events— live and in-person! Yes, after a long hiatus, we will be partnering with the community to (safely) bring you two exciting guest authors—equity expert and Principal Baruti Kafele and food journalist and columnist Mark Bittman.

“The past year has given us a great opportunity to connect with our visitors virtually, but we are excited to host in-person events again,” said Marianna DiGiacomo. “Collaborating with other businesses and agencies to welcome the community back is an amazing feeling. We can’t wait to hear the conversations these two authors will generate.”

We will be kicking off the return of our Dr. Audrey Lavin Speaking of Books Author Series and celebrating downtown Canton’s Restaurant Week with author Mark Bittman, on September 23 at 6:30 pm at the Canton Palace Theatre.

Mark was a food journalist and columnist, opinion columnist, and the lead magazine food writer at the New York Times. He starred in four television series and has made hundreds of television, radio, and podcast appearances, including Jimmy Kimmel Live!, RealTime with Bill Maher, and CBS’s The Dish; plus NPR’s All Things Considered, Fresh Air, and Morning Edition.

His book, VB6: Eat Vegan Before 6:00 to Lose Weight and Restore Your Health . . . for Good teaches us we can live healthier, not just eat healthier when you eat with eyes wide open. It also encourages us to discover a flexible, ethical way of eating better to improve your health and lose weight by using common sense in the kitchen.

On September 21, equity expert and Principal Baruti Kafele joins us at Umstattd Performing Arts Hall at 6:30 pm.

One of the most sought-after school leadership experts and education presenters in America, Kafele is impacting America’s schools with truth, a demand for meaningful reflection upon current practice, and a challenge for change to ensure that all students are achieving at high levels.  He will share his insights about what schools, families, students, and the community can do to improve student outcomes.  His visit is presented by Canton City School District in partnership with Stark Education Partnership, State Support Team Region 9, Dismantling Racism Coalition of Stark County., and the 21st Century Classroom.

His book, The Equity and Social Justice Education, discusses critical role teachers play in student success. It ensures that all students are seen, sheds light on the issues and challenges of inequity in the classroom and provides a pathway to infusing social justice education into lesson plans.

For the safety of our guests, masks are required at these events. Reserve your FREE seats at StarkLibrary.org/Authors
