Stark Library Adds Maker Space

September 9, 2019 (Canton, Ohio) – Makers of all ages are invited to enjoy equipment demonstrations and get hands-on experience with programs and new tech gadgets at Main Library from 5-7 pm on September 19 to celebrate the NEW Stark Library Maker Studio.

This creative design space is perfect for students, entrepreneurs, and tinkerers; it encourages hands-on learning and discovery to creators of all ages, and is available for open exploration and collaboration, one-on-one appointments, and maker classes.

The Stark Library Maker Studio started as a monthly pop-up Maker Clinic and a handful of spotlight classes with the only equipment being a sewing machine, Cricut machine, and a VHS conversion kit. Due to the popularity of the programs it continues to grow with more classes and equipment being added.   Equipment now includes:

  • 3-D printers
  • Poster Printers
  • Badge/Button Makers
  • Computerized Sewing Machines
  • Vinyl Cutters
  • Cricut Machines
  • Embroidery Machines
  • Grommet Machine
  • VID Box VHS/DVD Converter

“What people can make within the studio is only limited by their imagination. The space isn’t defined by a specific project or product. It isn’t even defined except that it is a place of discovery,” said Dee Rondinella, Technology Training Service Coordinator. “Putting a specific item, in my opinion, stops the imagination.”

Why buy when you can try? Maker Spaces are a growing trend in libraries across the nation, studios offer a collaborative environment for students, entrepreneurs, and lifelong learners to explore new skills without a hefty investment.

Patrons have used the Studio for a variety of projects including card making, holiday decorating, clothing repair, quilt making, VHS conversions, 3D printing, button making for personal events, applique making, sewing, and much more.

Beginning on September 26 the Maker Studio will be open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1-4 pm. Appointments are requested, but walk-ins will be accommodated when possible. Main library is in downtown Canton at 715 Market Avenue North.
