Stark Library a “Star Library” – Again!
February 5, 2020 (Canton, Ohio) –Stark Library has been recognized in the Library Journal’s annual list of top-rated “star libraries” for the fifth year in a row. Star Libraries are the best of the best, representing the top 1% of all public libraries in the United States.
“It’s an honor to be recognized as a Star Library. We are thankful to everyone who visits us and uses our services,” said Mary Ellen Icaza, Executive Director/CEO. “Our community inspires us to be our best each and every day. We will continue to work hard for our patrons and to maintain our Star Library standing.”
Stark Library has been honored as a three-Star Library five years in a row, and is one of only 25 Star Libraries in Ohio, and the only one in Stark County.
LJ’s Star Library Ratings and the LJ Index of Public Library Service spotlight the best libraries across America. The prestigious national rating system recognizes and promotes America’s top public libraries. The Library Journal assigns libraries star ratings similar to those used by Michelin and other travel guides to library peers in the same funding category.
The industry-leading magazine analyzes public libraries to determine Star status based on six different measures: overall circulation, circulation of electronic materials, library visits, program attendance, WIFI and public Internet computer use. The ratings were based on data from 2017 reported to state library agencies and compiled nationally by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
