Spring is on the Horizon! Library Kicks Off Gardening Season with 3nd Annual Eco-Fair and Return of the Seed Bank
February 22, 2019 (Canton, Ohio) –Stark Library kicks off the gardening season with the return of the popular Eco-Fair on Saturday, March 2 at Main Library. From 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., visitors can explore a variety of exhibitors and attend free presentations on a range of topics including tree care, gardening, wildlife rehabilitation, and more from local sustainability experts.
Exhibitors include Arborists for the City of Canton, Stark Parks, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Stark County Master Gardener Volunteers, and more. The Eco-Fair also marks the return of the popular Community Seed Bank, which provides free seeds to those interested in gardening, for its sixth season.
The Eco-Fair will feature free presentations from sustainability experts in Main Library’s Innovation Center including:
9 a.m. – Planting and Pruning of Trees with Dick Drake, Arborist for the City of Canton
10 a.m. – Intro. to New Annuals, Perennials, and Favorites and Container Gardening with Connie Greathouse, Master Gardener/ Harvest Home Nursery
11 a.m. — Wildlife Rehabilitation with Amanda Perry of Stark Parks
Noon — Drip Irrigation and Grow Lights with John Neibel, Master Gardener
1 p.m. — Wildlife Animals with Fran Kitchen, Ohio State Licensed Rehabilitator and guests
3 p.m. — How to Weave a Purse from Plastic Bags with Wendy from Stark-Tusc.-Wayne Recycling District
4 p.m. — Amending Soil with Rudy Moyer, Master Gardener
“There’s a great community interest in our gardening and sustainability programs. We’re pleased to collaborate with many local organizations to bring free learning opportunities like this to the community,” said Marianna DiGiacomo, Community Services Director.
