Sports Columnist and Author Terry Pluto to Speak at Lake Community Branch of Stark County District Library
November 1, 2016 (Canton, Ohio) – The Lake Community Branch of Stark County District Library invites sports fans to join Terry Pluto, local author and award-winning sports columnist, on November 16 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
This free event is sponsored by the Lake Community Friends of the Library and will feature a discussion on the good, the bad and the ugly of Cleveland sports followed by a question and answer session and book signing. Friends of the Library volunteers will have additional copies of the book available for purchase the night of the event.
Pluto is a sports columnist for The Plain Dealer. He has been honored twice by the Associated Press Sports Editors as the nation’s top sports columnist for medium-sized newspapers. He is a nine-time winner of the Ohio Sports Writer of the Year award and has received more than 50 state and local writing awards.
The Akron native was inducted into the Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame in 2005. He is the author of 23 books, including "The comeback: LeBron, the Cavs and Cleveland", "The Curse of Rocky Colavito" (selected by the New York Times as one of the five notable sports books of 1989), and Loose Balls, which was ranked number 13 on the Sports Illustrated top 100 sports books of all time. He was called “Perhaps the best American writer of sports books,” by the Chicago Tribune in 1997.
“We are thrilled to be the first library to host Terry Pluto and his new book, “The Comeback”. Cleveland sports are national news right now and there is no better writer or speaker on the subject,” said Jodie Hawkins of the Lake Community Branch. “Unique free events like this are a great example of how we try to serve as‘The Smart Store’ for our community.”
