Library Breaks Ground on New Jackson Township Branch

April 1, 2019 (Canton, Ohio) – Stark Library is excited to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for the future home of the Jackson Township Branch.

Stark Library invites the community to join in celebrating with food, fun and giveaways at his memorable event on April 13, at 2 p.m. at the new site located at 7487 Fulton Dr NW, Massillon, Ohio 44646.

“We’re excited to see this project moving forward,” said Steven Pittman, president of the Board. “This state-of-the-art library was designed for the community, by the community and we look forward to returning to a permanent home where we can fully serve the needs of the community. We hope to see the project completed in the spring of 2020.”

The new building was designed by HBM Architects, a nationally-recognized firm with a focus on library planning and design with input from the community. The firm has previously worked on Stark Library branches, including the Plain Community branch and the Perry Sippo branch.  It is being constructed by Fred Olivieri Construction Company, which has nearly 60 years of extensive construction experience with comparable public buildings in the area.

The current, temporary location of the Jackson Branch yielded the opportunity to serve as an incubator for Stark Library, allowing testing of new technologies, features, and services the district hopes to introduce in other locations. These include the 24/7 Lobby which houses book and movie dispensers, video game media boxes, and smart lockers for pickup of reserved materials. The new branch will integrate many of the same features with an expanded lobby with twice the amount of lockers, giving patrons the ability to pick up their reserved materials any time of the day or night..

The new branch, that will feature convenient access to technology and power, self-checkouts, a tailored collection of books and resources, and flexible meeting spaces, will be located on the northeast corner of Fulton Drive and Community Parkway and will be an integral part of the larger North Park renewal and amphitheatre project.  This location will provide convenient access for visitors via a new Parkway from Fulton Drive as well as from Community Parkway.
