2018 Family Holiday Events at Stark Library

November 14, 2018 (Canton, Ohio) – Stark Library is celebrating the 2018 holiday season with several events for all age groups at branch locations in Stark County.  Events include a Gingerbread House Extravaganza, special story times, crafts, a Polar Express party, meetings with Santa Claus and more. All events are free, but registration is requested, if indicated, due to limited seating.

 A schedule of events to get you in the holiday spirit is listed below:


  • Gingerbread House Extravaganza
    Enter November 26-December 6
    Entries on display Nov 26-Dec 22
    Main Library 715 Market Ave. N, Canton
    Design and build a gingerbread creation and bring it to the Main Library to decorate the Children’s Department.  See contest rules at StarkLibrary.org/Gingerbread.


  • Here Comes Santa In Partnership with Stark Parks
    Dec 1 10 a.m. -1 p.m. 
    Perry Sippo Branch 5710 12th St NW, Canton
    Bring your cameras and visit Santa at the library. Continue the holiday celebration throughout Exploration Gateway with crafts, stories, live animals, refreshments and musical entertainment. 
  • ‘Tis the Season for Holiday Crafts (Registration Requested)

    Gather with friends and family at the Library to get ready for the holidays with a day of making and creating wonderful decorations.  
  • Light up Downtown 
    Dec 6 6-7:30 p.m.

    Santa Claus is coming! Visit the library during Canton’s annual launch of the holiday season for entertainment, crafts, and, of course, the jolly old elf himself.


  • Big Band Holiday Concert (Registration Requested)
    Dec 6 6-8 p.m.
    Perry Sippo Branch 5710 12th St. NW, Canton
    Concert features the Savoy Big Band, a 14-piece jazz ensemble.


  • Holiday Hoopla (Registration Requested)
    December 8 10:30 a.m. – noon 
    North Branch 189 25th St. NW, Canton
    Create some holiday magic for the whole family. Participate in a story time, meet and take pictures with Santa, pick up tips on how to wrap presents, and the whole family can create DIY gifts.


  • Polar Express Story Time
    Dec 10 6:30-7:30 p.m.
    East Canton Branch 224 N. Wood Street, East Canton
    All aboard the Polar Express! Join us for stories and crafts as we travel to the North Pole.


  • Holiday Open House  (Registration Requested)

    Celebrate the holidays with music, crafts, refreshments, and cheer!


  • Holiday Wreath Workshop (Registration Requested)

    Create a festive holiday wreath to hang in your home. All supplies will be provided. Adults and teens 16+ please. 


  • Elf School
    Dec 10-15 Library Hours

    Complete an application and activities to receive an Elf diploma. Come back on Saturday for an interactive viewing of the movie Elf at 2pm. 


  • Wrap it Up Maker’s Studio (Registration Requested)

    Learn how to use paper cutting tools to add finishing touches to any gift wrapping.


  • Pop-Up Cards
    Dec 15 11 a.m.- 3 p.m.

    Explore the concepts of Paper Engineering behind Pop-Up Cards while creating your own card. Festive paper and decorations will be provided


  • Holiday Open House
    Dec 20 4-5:30 p.m.
    DeHoff Memorial Branch 216 Hartford Ave. SE, Canton
    Celebrate the sights and sounds of the holiday season. Enjoy music, activities, light refreshments and cheer. There will be a surprise visit from Santa.
