Stark Library Celebrates Pride
Join us throughout the month of June, as we celebrate Pride Month in our community – a time to lift up our LGBTQ+ community. Pride Month is commemorated annually to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots and works to achieve equal justice and opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning individuals. The riots marked the beginning of a movement to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices. As a library, one of our core values is respect – treating each person with dignity.
Kick off Pride Month on June 2, from 1 – 3pm at Main Library. The Summa Pride Clinic and Queer in Canton present Talking Pride in Your Community. These organizations will help members of our community understand the LGBTQ-friendly resources available to them in Stark County.
We are proud to be attending the first annual StarkPRIDE Festival on June 11 at Centennial Plaza in downtown Canton. Our bookmobile and staff will be onsite with books and materials selected especially for this event.
On June 28 at North Branch, we will hold Pride Storytime, when we’ll explore self-expression and our LGBTQ+ community with books, songs, art, and fun!
Our vibrant community is filled with a wealth of diverse individuals, and we welcome each person into the library. Pride Month is an opportunity to recognize LGBTQ+ people here and around the world. We hope you enjoy these titles, selected by our librarians.
