Backlist Booklist | July
Does your reading change with the seasons? For many people, summer means lighter reading while for others the extended daylight hours means the opportunity to delve into those longer, weightier books. There’s no right or wrong; true reading people don’t judge other readers. Regardless of your reading preference, the most popular books might not be readily available but fortunately there is a plethora of backlist gems. I’m dividing this into two separate blog posts: this month I’ll tackle the lighter books and next month I’ll focus on the heftier books!
First, a disclaimer. I’m not saying “lighter” reading is any less literary nor am I using it as a derogatory term. As a true reader, I’m on the “any reading is good reading side!” I’m thinking more of the fun, reading in the shade with a tall glass of lemonade (or your beverage of choice), beach reading, or if this is a staycation-summer, books that will take you away. Midnight Library, by Matt Haig
"Between life and death there is a library, and within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices... Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets?” It’s a great concept and well done.
Melissa Albert—if you enjoy dark fairy tales with a twist and hidden doors, this is the series for you!
Beach Read, by Emily Henry
When a romance author and a literary author challenge each other to switch genres when suffering from writer’s block, who knows what will happen?
